With no fashion shows or photo shoots in the foreseeable future, I chose to spend the first few months of quarantine dissecting my face and trying to answer the gnawing question of “Why have I had acne for 25 years”? I was used to have acne in my teens but paring that with aging skin was a whole new glorious conundrum. So with nothing but time on my hands, I set out to speak to some experts and get some guidance.
The first pearl of wisdom I found was that skincare is key. I was using whatever products I had been gifted through work or whatever I could grab from the Target shelves in the 30 seconds I had in between my children trying to kill each other in the skin care aisle. I was turned on to Obaji by a skincare specialist. Their cleansing gel and toner are now the first steps in my morning and evening routine. Next up, it turns out Vitamin C serum is crucial for hyper-pigmentation ( aka years of tanning my face). A friend of mine recommend Drunk Elephant, which oddly enough was my spirit animal during these first few months of quarantine. I love their clean and green products so I loaded up on their C- Firma Serum and Retinol Cream- an essential I was told in combating wrinkles.

I gave this regime a few months, paired with wearing zero make-up, and saw results within a few weeks! The experts were right- who knew?! At this point Zoom calls were becoming more and more the norm so I thought I better attempt a minimal make-up routine so as to not look like I had totally given up. I decided to try the Armani Foundation that my hair stylist had been raving about for years. Holy moly, after one application I was hooked. It goes on so flawlessly and makes your skin look smooth and glowing. With this 45 second foundation process, I was almost at my beauty threshold but thought I would push myself one step further with lipstick. I have always wanted to be a red lipstick lady but never had the courage. What better time than when no one can see you to try?! Enter Charlotte Tilbury’s Tell Laura in the Matte Revolution finish. It is the perfect red and the matte finish makes lips appear wider and fuller ( which makes wrinkles look smaller and skinner). It’s amazing how lipstick can make you feel so glam with so little effort. The final piece de resistance, gigantic sunglasses to hid all the rest. I am currently obsessed with these giant mirrored lenses from Diff.
